18/1/08 I challenge the MCA to state what they have done to secure approval from the government to build a new Chinese school in Bercham.
Todate the MCA representatives in Ipoh Barat are silent. Is this a silence of shame or silence because they have failed to get the necessary approval upon which I had promised to raise the money from the local community to build the urgently needed school.
There is a urgent need for a new school because of the high demand and the overcrowding in other nearby Chinese schools.
On the 20th of December2007 I had publicly accepted the challenge by YB Ho Chang Wang and took responsibility to build a new Chinese school in Bercham.
I gave him 14 days to get the necessary approvals from the relevant authorities following which the DAP will commence the construction of the new school
My challenge was widely reported in the local media but until today YB Ho is silent. Even one can hear a pin drop, he is that quiet.
His silence is a clear message to the people that the MCA has failed to get the approval. Why as a senior partner in the BN and claiming to champion Chinese education can’t the MCA get the approvals?
Their silence is a glaring example of the failure of the MCA to defend and promote Chinese education.
It is shameful. If the MCA cannot deliver and everybody know it cannot get a building license for a new school it should not have challenged me.
It was announced in parliament that no new Chinese or Tamil schools would be built under the 9th Malaysia Plan. What were the MCA and MIC doing when this policy was formulated. Do they agree with this policy to deny mother tongue education. They should speak up now. Their silence is a big sign of their failure!
The people are fed up with the MCA. One proof of this is a interesting comment in my blog which reads “I will support and donate my 1 month income to build the school when the approval is obtained and YB undertake to build the much needed school. Though I am Educated from ACS, I always support the neglected Chinese schools though in a small ways. Good job YB!
The population of Bercham has been exploding and there ids a great urgency to build a new school.
Chronology of events leading to the DAP accepting the challenge by YB Ho
“On Dec 8th I issued a statement urging the relevant authorities to urgently build a new Chinese school in Bercham. Immediately Perak State Exco member Ho Chang Wang retorted that a new Chinese school is in the pipeline in Bercham.
He said a Chinese school would be closed in Taiping as the Taiping school population has been dropping and it only has a few students now. The urgent question is why one school has to be closed before a new one is open?
On Dec 10th MCA Bercham assemblyman Gooi Seng Teik said there is no available place for the construction of Chinese school in Bercham unless a private land owner donates a piece of land for this purpose.
Gooi has been sleeping on his job and totally unaware that is a piece of land has been reserved and located in a housing area near Bercham for a school to be built.
On Dec 13th YB Ho Chang Wang issued a statement challenging me to take responsibility to build a new Chinese school.
In the Ipoh Barat Parliamentary constituency all the 3 state seats are held by the MCA. Bercham by Gooi Soon Teik -Kepayang- by Tan Chee Meng (Exco member) and Buntong- by Yik Pooi Hong ( State Deputy Speaker)
But all three are sleeping. as far as defending vernacular education is concerned.
The people would like to urgently know:
1) if any of the 3 assembly men agree to the building of a new Chinese school in Bercham?
2) If so what have the MCA representatives done to date on this issue as they are elected on the BN ticket and sit in the government.

MCA cares only for Chinese Businessmen, not for the common man on the road. They take what is given by by UMNO led BN Govt. They do not demand what is rightfully ours being the citizen of this country. We do not need favours from the UMNO/Malay Govt. We need our rights.

MCA should state that the party had no authority on such matters. Only the UMNO leaders can make the decision.

I say go ahead and build it using volunteers the way ‘Habitat for Humanity’ works. In fact, I suggest you call it DAP ‘Education for Malaysian’ program because its really for the soul of Malaysians and not about Chinese education.
